Meet a Changemaker: Junaid BEM, Community Leader and Coordinator, Hope 4 Humanity

Junaid has lived in Newham for over 20 years, becoming a trusted figure, especially among older residents and vulnerable families. With the grassroots charity Hope 4 Humanity, he tackles key local issues such as health inequalities, food insecurity, social isolation, and the cost-of-living crisis. Junaid is deeply responsive to the needs of his community. His work includes vitamin D and Healthy Start awareness, holiday activities for families, nutrition education, energy efficiency advice, and financial literacy. At the heart of it all is his commitment to providing practical help with dignity, empowerment, and knowledge—especially for communities that often face barriers in accessing support.He’s determined to expand support for young people through training, mental health initiatives, and creative opportunities that help youth thrive and steer clear of harmful influences. Junaid’s dedication hasn’t gone unnoticed. His outstanding contribution to the community was recognised by His Majesty the King with the award of a British Empire Medal (BEM).
