Newham at the London Youth Games 2024
Since April 2024, GLL, Newham’s new leisure provider has been coordinating Newham entries into the London Youth Games on behalf of Newham Council and in that time facilitated Newham’s participation at 24 events from a range of sports such as Cycling (BMX and Road), Table Tennis and Volleyball. In doing so, GLL connected with sports clubs, schools and leisure centres across the borough.
167 young people took part across the 24 sports with more who participated in trials and training sessions. Highlights included:
- Boys Handball (team from Brampton Manor School) – Team gold medal
- Para Athletics (team from Lister Secondary School) – 2 gold, 6 silver and 6 bronze medals
- Judo (team from Stratford Judo Club and A1 Judo Club) – 3 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze medal
- Boys Swimming (team from Newham & UEL Swimming Club) – Gold medal
- Basketball (team from Newham Youngbloods Basketball Club) – boys team bronze medal and girl’s placing 4th
The Jubilee Trophy is the league table for the 32 London boroughs and the City of London corporation. Newham placed 24th with 601 points. Congratulations to Bromley for winning with a very impressive total of 950 points and denying Haringey a third consecutive title.
