Spotlight on Ayati Mind – September/October 50 Steps Changemaker organisation

Men’s Mental Health: A Silent Struggle
We all know someone who is struggling with their mental health. In Newham, where mental health issues have been on the rise, statistics reveal that nearly one in four people experience mental health struggles. Yet, for men, societal pressures and stigma make seeking help even more difficult.

In this diverse borough, the cultural barriers add another layer of complexity. Black and global majority men often find it challenging to access mental health services that truly resonate with their lived experiences.

Recognising this gap, Ayati Mind—a pioneering digital platform—was founded by local changemaker Daniel Acheampong in 2022. Founded by Newham local Daniel Acheampong in 2022, Ayati Mind is dedicated to breaking the stigma surrounding men’s mental health, with a specific focus on Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic communities. Inspired by Daniel’s personal journey navigating his own mental health struggles, Ayati Mind aims to connect men with therapists who understand their cultural backgrounds and the unique pressures they face.

“Our mission is simple but powerful. We aim to provide accessible, culturally tailored therapy and support to men who often feel overlooked or misunderstood,” says Daniel. “We believe that understanding cultural nuances is key to effective mental health care, and that’s exactly what Ayati Mind aims to deliver.”
