Better Balance

Better Balance is an evidence-based falls prevention initiative designed to help adults improve strength, balance, and confidence in daily activities. This is delivered by qualified Postural Stability Instructors, the programme uses the FaME approach (Falls Management Exercise), which includes practical techniques such as backward chaining to teach participants how to safely get up from the floor.

The programme aims to:

  • Reduce the risk and fear of falling in older people aged 50+
  • Improve independence and quality of life
  • Lower falls-related hospital admissions
  • Provide social support to reduce isolation

The weekly sessions take place across two community centres in Newham:

  • African Caribbean Resource Centre: 627 Barking Road, Plaistow, E13 9EZ
  • SubCo Trust: 107-109 The Grove, Stratford, E15 1HP

The programme would help to improve the quality of life for older adults, as it would enable them to live independently for longer.
