World Immunisation Week

This year, World Immunisation Week is celebrated from Thursday April 24th to Wednesday April 30th. Led by the World Health Organisation (WHO), this event aims to promote the use of vaccines to protect people of all ages against vaccine-preventable diseases.

Why Vaccinations Matter

Vaccinations are one of humanity’s greatest achievements. They have saved over millions of lives, reducing infant deaths by 40% and allowing more children to live beyond their first birthday.

Local Initiatives and resources

In North East London, the NHS is promoting the Bright Start in Life campaign, focusing on the importance of early childhood vaccinations. This initiative provides valuable resources and support to parents, ensuring that children receive their essential immunisations on time.
For pregnant women, vaccinations are particularly important. The NHS offers comprehensive guidance on vaccinations during pregnancy, which protect both the mother and the unborn child from serious diseases like influenza (flu) and pertussis (whooping cough). These vaccinations are safe and recommended to ensure the health of both mother and baby.
