Could Your Story Help Improve Health in Newham?

Newham Public Health is inviting local residents to take part in an exciting new Photovoice creative research project, exploring how communities, local environments and everyday experiences can influence health and wellbeing. The project will focus on the experiences of people living with type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity or heart disease and aims to better understand what helps people manage their health, as well as the barriers they may face.
Residents aged 18 and over who live in Newham are invited to join a series of five interactive workshops, where participants will use photography, storytelling and group discussions to share their experiences and perspectives. No photography experience is needed, and participants will be supported throughout the project.
The workshops will take place on Mondays from 16 November to 14 December 2026, 10:00am to 11:30am, at Custom Made, E16 3AR. Participants are asked to attend all five sessions. Funding is available to recognise people’s time and contributions, and travel expenses will be covered.
This co-produced project has been planned and designed by Well Newham Public Health Community Researchers, local residents with lived experience of type 2 diabetes, working alongside Newham Public Health and a local community artist and photographer. Findings from the project will help inform future public health work and contribute to a better understanding of how local communities can support healthier lives.
Applications close on 10 November 2026, although places may fill sooner. If you work with Newham residents, please share this opportunity with anyone who may be interested.
