What are Direct Payments?
Adult Social Care allocates a sum of money for each person who is eligible for help meeting their care needs. With Direct Payments, rather than the council using this money to buy care, the council gives this money to the individual to buy their own care.
Direct Payments enable people to have more flexible care and have more control of their care. People often find they can meet their care needs more effectively because of this. It enables them to remain independent and even increase their independence and their wellbeing.
For example, a young man who needed help and support to go out and about was able to employ someone who shared his love of cycling. This enabled him to enjoy himself and stay fit.
